Companies involved in the Middle East and North Africa’s oil and gas sector are beginning to take advantage of lower project costs to progress with both upstream and downstream investment plans. MEED’s Special Report focuses on the major oil and gas projects that are going ahead, having been delayed as a result of the global economic crisis. The report includes a country-by-country breakdown of exploration, transportation and refinery projects, analysing the contract awards made so far, as well as the contract models being used. The report also includes details on the pricing environment in the major oil and gas economies in the Mena region – by how much has the cost of projects dropped in Qatar, for example?
A number of significant gas discoveries have recently been made in the North African states. MEED’s Special Report provides an overview of the major discoveries to have been made in the past year, principally in Morocco, Algeria and Egypt. What opportunities are there for future investment in these countries’ upstream oil and gas sectors?
Should National Oil Companies (NOCs) and governments be relaxing the terms of exploration contracts and oil and gas licences, in the light of the ongoing financial downturn? With many international oil companies unwilling to invest in risky or more difficult markets due to the relatively low oil price, how can NOCs incentivise investors to bid for new licensing rounds?
A combination of weak production levels and low oil prices has resulted in a dramatic drop in oil revenues in some Mena countries, for example Yemen. MEED’s report analyses oil revenues in all the major oil and gas producing states, comparing revenues in 2009 to date, with 2008, and assessing the reason behind the change in oil revenues in each country.
